Roseanne Barr Ruins Big Comeback for Entire Cast and Crew!
If you’re a Roseanne Barr fan, or at least you were before today (May 29th 2018), you already know the woman has a big mouth. In fact, most fans of the 1988 hit television series Roseanne actually enjoyed the show for that very reason. The show’s popularity and huge following prompted ABC to revive it after a long and successful 10-season run. It returned on March 27, 2018 and the highly anticipated premiere hit the ball out of the park. They reportedly had “massive season ratings.”
Instead of the planned 8 episodes for the eleventh season, three additional episodes were to be added this fall. Clearly, all this meant good news for everyone involved and the stars were surely floating on cloud nine. So why has the revival of this classic sitcom already been tanked and may not even air the reruns. In spite of the estimated 18.2 million viewers who watched Rosanne return barely two months ago, once again they’ll have to say goodbye. For those who haven’t already heard, you can lay the blame on Roseanne Bar and her big mouth (or rather her trigger happy tweeting). The show is canceled and Rosanne has ruined the big comeback for the entire cast and crew.
Rosanne’s Big Mouth
Among other things, Roseanne Barr is well-known for her big mouth and her big personality. Those characteristics are a big part of what has made her famous. However, apparently, today on Twitter, the big star went too far with all that big attitude. She reportedly tweeted a racist comment that resulted in the canceling of the newly revived show that came back with a political element added this time. The current Trump Administration seems to permeate every part of our lives in 2018, so it makes sense that the Rosanne writers would address it. But many fans who enjoy the humor of the big, bold and ballsy Trump-loving Rosanne on the show, don’t really realize not all of it is an act.
As a fan of the actress and of the show, it might surprise you to know that Rosanne Barr is not just a Republican and Trump supporter, but a longtime acquaintance of Donald Trump. Once upon a time, just knowing a person’s political affiliation didn’t necessarily cause you to question their ethics. Once upon a time, knowing someone was Republican didn’t make you automatically suspect them of racism. Not so in the current Trump Administration and era. Once upon a time is not now. That is why, if you oppose the current Administration and all that it has stood for thus far, it may be off putting to learn that Rosanne Barr is a Trump Supporter and friend of his in real life. If you didn’t think her politics were a reflection of the kind of person she is, consider her recent actions and think again. A racist tweet is what got her television series cancelled.
Racist Twitter Comment
Barr’s racist comments on Twitter were directed at Valerie Jarrett, former senior adviser to President Barack Obama. Barr tweeted a so called joke, comparing Jarrett to an ape, although she later apologized for making the comment. But executives would soon make it clear to Barr that joke or no joke, her and the show were history. Before the public announcement was made about the shows cancellation, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger contacted Jarret and conveyed apologies. He assured her that there would be “zero tolerance for Barr’s remarks.”
While it is a sad thing that ABC had to take the drastic steps they took in handling this issue, their fast action is to be applauded. Like it or not, some situations call for drastic action, and this situation was one of them. It’s just too bad that everyone involved has to suffer because of the crass, inconsiderate and hateful words of someone else. Many people’s livelihood was affected by the sudden cancelling of the show, not to mention the letdown of the fans who enjoyed watching the other cast members besides Rosanne. Of course, Rosanne came forward and gave the obligatory “I’m sorry,” but it was clearly too little too late. Perhaps she thought President Trump would “pardon” her. Maybe next time she’ll keep her big mouth closed and her big Trump-like ideology to herself.
