NANO Excitement and a Book Writing High!
Wow! Now that I’ve finally decide to write a book for the 2017 NANO Competition, I’m really really excited. I have the story I plan to complete, fully in mind, and I have to admit, I’m on a book writing high! I wonder, am I the only writer who feels this way when I first start working on a book?
Ground Work Laid
The reason I feel so high and giddy is because the ground work for my book is already laid, so first thing tomorrow morning, I’ll hit the ground running and plunge right in. “Lights Out at the Moulin Rouge” is a title I decided on several years ago, and the story is one that I’ve been interested in doing since 2007. That was when I first heard about the historical events surrounding the first integrated casino in Las Vegas. Prior to that, the only Moulin Rouge I ever heard of was located somewhere in Paris.
Although my book will be a work of fiction, over the years, I have managed to accumulate quite a bit of research on this topic. That is why the title and other elements of the book is already familiar to me, even though I haven’t really written anything. I even have the book cover ideals already in mind! The ideals and thoughts are steadily flowing; both the old ones that I’ve had in mind for years, and the new ones that keep popping up.
I’m raring to go! The adrenaline is coursing through my veins and I’m pacing around like an athlete, the night before the first round of championship games. Character, plot, and scene ideals keep coming into my head, faster than I can jot the notes down! I love it, and I wish I could stay pumped up like this. Of course the euphoria won’t last, just like the “new book baby blues” that you temporarily suffer from after the book is finally done.
But don’t worry, even if you feel the initial excitement of the Nano challenge wearing off after a few days of hard work. Just keep a regular and continuous writing pace, and keep looking ahead to the finish line!
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL 2017 NANO PARTICIPANTS!
